Key points about the assignment
EMA submission deadline: Week 22 - Noon: (Wednesday) 29th September 2021 - B867 Study planner
The word limit is 4,000 words.
This EMA draws on your learning from the whole module,
particularly:
EMA question
This piece of assessment is made up of two parts. Read
them carefully and complete each one.
Part A
Select either coaching or mentoring and evaluate the
arguments for using your chosen approach to support learning. You should
include an analysis of the organisational factors to be taken into account in
designing and delivering your chosen approach and you should illustrate your
answer with reference to one or more organisations of your choice.
(70 marks) [2,800 Word]
Part B
Write a reflective account of how you have developed your
skills either as a coach or as a mentor
during your study of this module. This account should cover:
- how
you have learned as well as what you have learned and should explain your
rationale for your approach, adopting a model of reflection to help you
frame your response.
- Include
a sample of your skills portfolio. This sample should be no less than 300
and not be more than 500 words long.
(30 marks) [1,200 Word]
EMA guidance
This assignment can be written in an essay or a report
style.
You should:
- answer
both parts of the question
- make
sure you refer to relevant theories, concepts, and ideas that you have
studied in the module materials in both parts of the assignment
- reference
correctly.
In Part B of the question, the sample of your skills
portfolio can be made up of several small samples that illustrate your use of
reflective practice, as long as the total material quoted does not exceed 500
words.
Please note that:
- The
sample of your skills portfolio must be within your answer and not
presented as an appendix.
- You
can use diagrams , graphs and figures which will not be counted in the
word length. However, you should not attempt to sidestep the word length –
for example, by excessive use of diagram labels or hyphenation. The
reference list is also to be excluded from the word count.
- In-text
references and the content of tables are to be included in
the word length.
You can find further guidance on all these areas in
the MSc
(HRM) Qualification handbook.
Please note that your tutor can deduct up to 10 marks for
poor structure, clarity and/or referencing of the TMA.
Submitting the EMA
Submission of the EMA is to be made electronically via
the eTMA system.
This information supplements the information in the Assessment
Handbook and your module materials. The Assessment Handbook sets out important
information about the assessment of your examinable work, with which you are
expected to be familiar and to comply in full. You can access the Assessment
Handbook on the Assessment page
of the module website. You will also find there the ‘Additional EMA guidance’
document, which gives you further advice on the academic content of your
examinable work.
Ensure that you input the code of the module for which
you are registered (B867) clearly on your examinable work.
The EMA must be sent electronically by noon of the
cut-off date.
Do not send copies of the EMA to your tutor.
Late or partial submission of the EMA
Please note the university’s policy on late or partial
submissions of EMAs, which can be found here – What
if I can’t attend my exam or submit my EMA?
Verification
Since there is no examination for B867, the University
needs to satisfy itself that the EMA you submit is your own work. Your tutor
will therefore be asked at the end of the module to indicate that, to the best
of their knowledge, you are the author of the work submitted.
If you are in any doubt about your EMA, you should
consult your tutor and seek advice. In the rare event that a tutor feels unable
to verify your work, the B867 Examination and Assessment Board may require you
to attend a viva voce.
Resubmission
If you are unfortunate enough to be awarded a fail
result, you will be eligible to register for the chance to complete and submit
the EMA of the next resubmission presentation of B867, provided that you
achieve an Overall Continuous Assessment Score of 40 or more and an EMA score
of 15 or more.
Examinable components that are awarded a lower fail score
are not eligible for resubmission. If you are eligible to resubmit, you will be
offered the opportunity to do so and will be sent details of the resubmission arrangements.
If you fail that resubmission, you will fail the module as a whole.
